Free radicals are molecules that are out of balance. From damage, such as radiation, pollution or inflammation, they’ve lost an electron. This makes them unstable, so they search for another molecule to join to which can stabilize them again. It could be a collagen fibre, a chain of molecules. The free radical can snap one of the collagen fibre molecules and destabilize the entire chain. Antioxidants are our bodies’ defence against free radicals. They link to the free radicals and neutralise them. One of the main antioxidants is Superoxide dismutase (SOD).
Cantaloupe melons (Cantalupensis Naud) are full of an anti oxidant called superoxide dismutase (SOD) that can help your body to fight free radicals
