The challenge

Serious producers of herbal products have a difficult time.

 
Rules and regulations are in many cases made by people from the pharmaceutical world.
 
They might have very honest intensions – although one sometimes gets the feeling that the pharmaceutical world is afraid of the competition from natural products.
 
The pharmaceutical industry is the child of the chemical industry and every chemist’s dream is the pure chemical compound - based on one single molecule.
 
And that is reflected in the official rules.
 
A natural product consists of many molecules and like wine it is dependant of the soil, the sun and many other factors. And that is difficult to squeeze into the chemists   narrow world.
 
And when the herbal product has passed all the regulatory challenges marketing is often difficult because proper claims might not be allowed.
 
In some countries the wording even says    “….not allowed even if it is right”!
 
This might be one reason for the fact that you find so many unserious advertisements with phony before-and –after pictures and meaningless claims.
 
 
UDFORDRINGEN
 
Det er ikke let at være en seriøs producent af præparater baseret på urter.
 
Mange gange er regelværket udarbejdet af folk med baggrund i den farmaceutiske branche. De har naturligvis helt rene motiver, men man må ikke glemme, at farmabranchen er bange for konkurrancen fra natur produkter.
 
Farmabranchen er en udløber af den kemiske industri, og for mangen kemiker er målet den rene kemiske forbindelse – opbygget af lutter ens molekyler.
 
Og det er afspejlet i regelværket.
 
Men et urtebaseret produkt består af mange forskellige molekyler, og har det ligesom vin: sammensætningen varierer med jord, årstid, sol og mange andre faktorer. Og det er svært at passe ind i en kemikers snævre verden.
 
Når endeligt produktet har klaret alt det, kommer den markedsmæssige udfordring:
Hvilke anprisninger må man give ?
 
I nogle lande står ligefrem: ”---------må ikke siges, selvom det er rigtigt.!
 
Det kan være en af grundene til, at denne branche har så mange tvivlsomme før-og-efter billeder og meningsløse anprisninger.
